Recordings made between Calgary Alberta, Ladysmith, and the greater Vancouver Island area of British Columbia, Canada. Spring 2019 - Summer 2022.
“Time to Wake Up the Leaves” was recorded within multiple locations throughout the Twelve Mile Coulee located in Calgary Alberta (Mohkinstsis) 2019.
“The Ancient Forest, Captain Avery’s Locker, and Bogs of Despair” were recording in various locations throughout the town of Ladysmith (Stz’uminus) on Vancouver Island British Columbia. 2022. Written and recorded by Matthew and Adam Springer.
“Captain Avery’s Locker” Dead men tell no tales. Captain Avery’s locker is the ramblings of Captain Avery Grouse, a long dead legendary pirate lord who ruled over the nine seas. He met a treacherous end at the hands of his first mate and now haunts an artifact known as “Avery’s Folly”, waiting to be released.
A collaboration between Matthew and Adam in which the vocal work was created by Adam. It both captures the feeling of the West Coast and acts as lore for a real existing ring set in sparkling peach moonstone. Roughly two minutes of goofy pirate antics.
“The West Coast Trail” is completely comprised of field recordings from my experience on the legendary Canadian hiking trail located on the Pacific West Coast, July 8th - 15th 2022.
The West Coast Trail is a 75km trail located on the West side of Vancouver Island. An Epic backpacking adventure accompanied by my Father Rob Springer, and my youngest brother Collin Springer. Lasting 7 days beside the Western Coast of a beautiful, wet, Canadian Rainforest beholding endless amounts of lush biodiversity, twisting paths, endless ladders, and fantastical nautical wonders. This was an incredible journey that pushed myself both physically and mentally in the most rewarding and humbling way I have ever experienced. A life changing trail that brought me closer to my family, nature, and myself.
“Deep Below the Waves” was recorded partly in Calgary Alberta (Mohkinstsis) 2021
and Ladysmith BC (Stz’uminus) 2022.
